Nick Wolny is an editor and journalist based in Los Angeles. He is currently a managing editor at CNET, the finance columnist for Out magazine and a small business owner of seven years.

Reporting and commentary focus on the following categories:

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ+ — With $3.8 trillion in purchasing power, we’re not going anywhere. As anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and vitriol ramp up, it’s important to know the facts and what consumers should understand now.

💸 Personal Finance — Personal finance is ultimately personal, even when it’s controversial. Human-interest reporting on both money and commerce provide insight into what motivates us as consumers.

💰 Economic News — Okay, but what does it all mean? Nick distills today's news into crispy, crunchy nuggets so you know exactly how events across the nation and world are impacting your wallet.

Nick’s Core Message

Nick Wolny is a finance writer, editor and consultant working at the intersection of finance and LGBTQ+ topics. He is currently the finance columnist for Out Magazine and a managing editor at CNET; prior to this, he was a self-employed marketing consultant for six years, and his company continues to operate today. Nick’s personal finance perspective is that, to truly increase your earning potential and transform your money situation, you have to take matters into your own hands.

This modern outlook on money led to Nick being tapped to launch a vertical on side hustles and financial independence for NextAdvisor, a partnership with TIME magazine. He later moved over to CNET, where he is managing editor of the branded content division and a finance writer, covering consumer psychology, exclusive data sets and America’s credit card debt crisis.

But it was a side hustle of his own, the first finance column for Out magazine, where he unearthed the incredible data sets and evidence that queer people are being financially held back from living their best lives. He covers the biggest money topics impacting LGBTQ+ people today, both for Out and Financialicious, his newsletter on finance and business.

A contributor for several years, Nick has previously written for Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Business Insider and Fortune magazine, and is a seasoned television correspondent with over 150 live interviews, including CNN, Good Morning America, CBS MoneyWatch, CNBC, PBS and Cheddar News.
