Nick’s Core Message
Nick Wolny is a personal finance author and consultant working at the intersection of business, technology, and LGBTQ+ culture. He is currently the finance columnist for Out Magazine and a managing editor at CNET Group; prior to this, he was a self-employed marketing consultant for six years. Nick ’s personal finance perspective is that mastering your money requires coming out to yourself about who you are, what lights you up, and what will bring you fulfillment in both the future and the present.
This modern outlook on money led to Nick being tapped to launch a vertical on side hustles and financial independence for NextAdvisor, a partnership with TIME magazine. He later moved over to CNET, covering consumer matters and appearing in national broadcast media as a correspondent, before moving to the branded content division.
But it was a side hustle of his own, a finance column for Out magazine, where he got to dive deep on the evidence that queer people are at a financial disadvantage.
A contributor for several years, Nick has previously written for Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Business Insider, and Fortune magazine. His first book, Money Proud: The Queer Guide to Generate Wealth, Slay Debt, and Build Good Habits to Secure Your Future, released with HarperCollins in December 2025.
