About Nick

Nick Wolny is an American author, editor, and personal finance writer based in Los Angeles. He writes about money, technology, LGBTQ+ culture and how they intertwine, with a focus on how financial systems shape our lived experiences and long-term well-being.

Nick is the finance columnist for Out Magazine and a managing editor at CNET Group, where he leads written branded content for CNET, Mashable, PCMag, Lifehacker and others. He's previously contributed commentary for Fast Company, Business Insider, Fortune, The Advocate, CNN, CNBC, Good Morning America, and other national outlets.

Known for making financial advice accessible and culturally relevant, Nick centers queer perspectives and practical strategies for building wealth, reducing debt, and developing sustainable money habits. He's the creator of Financialicious, a newsletter dedicated to gay financial empowerment, and the author of Money Proud: The Queer Guide to Generate Wealth, Slay Debt, and Build Good Habits to Secure Your Future, his debut book, published with HarperCollins and recommended by The New York Times.

Nick grew up in rural llinois, and spent a decade in Houston before moving to Southern California in 2021. He holds degrees in classical French Horn from the University of Illinois and Rice University, as well as a certificate in journalism from UCLA.
